Review of video software available

I am going to go through the video software that I have explored over the past month and give a review. Please note the review is based on the software and is compatibility to our students and our resources.

Coaches eye

Positives - I love the way you can video overlay using this software. It also has a free version.

Negatives- Can only be used using a touchscreen devise. This means in our school the students would not be able to use their Chromebooks. The enhancements also cost. The coaches eye is not really set up for teachers more for sports coaches

Ubersense

Positives - Seems to be a step up on coaches eye. It has a lot more shared videos and it links to Facebook accounts. It also has a free version.

Negatives- Can only be used using a touchscreen devise. This means in our school the students would not be able to use their Chromebooks. The enhancements also cost. T

Wi Video

Positives - You can upload straight from Google drive. Easy to use from a Chromebook.

Negatives- The cost. Also this is more a editing devise as opposed to a movement analysis site

Vidalyse

Positives - You can upload straight from google drive. Easy to use from a Chromebook. Can control and manage accounts of students. Set up for PE teachers. Can compare videos side by side and use the angle tool and lines and drawings similar to coaches eye and ubbersense. I have brought for 200 dollars a lifetime membership that allows 1000 students access to the software each year.

Negatives- It does not quite have the same functions as the touch screen apps and software.

So, overall for the purpose of what I am trying to achieve with my PE class I am going to use vidalyse. Although not as powerful as other software for the purpose of control and management of a class of students this software ticks the most boxes....

MIT15 ideas and inquiry

I am looking to examine how to use video for the purpose of analysis of movement. Also looking at how this video could be used as assessment tool. The Inquiry will be useful for sport and Physical Education teachers and anybody wanting to compare and contrast movement.

Previously I have used video editors to slow down video and have students evaluate movements. You tube editor is a good video editing tool.

I have seen software that enable students to draw on the video and graph movement as well as compare to others. I intend to inquire on the suitability of some of this software to students in the maniakalani cluster.

I will then use the software to enhance engagement and thus achievement in a Level 1 PE achievement standard. In this standard the students must demonstrate strategies to improve performance. The context I will use will be volleyball as it is an activity the students engage in and there is enough online material for the students to compare and contrast movement.

Lastly I will explore the opportunities for the students to 'double dip' and gain IT credits based on their use of video and technology
